GEO, our mascot
Name: Geosaurus “Earth Lizard” Nickname: “Geo”
Ancestry: The name Geosaurus means "Earth lizard", and is derived from the Greek Ge- ("Earth") and σαῦρος -sauros ("lizard"). Geosaurus was a carnivore that spent much, if not all, its life out at sea. With all currently known species being three meters or less in length, Geosaurus is somewhat small when compared to living crocodilians. Its body was highly streamlined for greater hydrodynamic swimming, which along with finned tail made it a more efficient swimmer than modern crocodilian species.

The elementary students of Salem-Keizer School District named GEO in 2004 when they participated in the National Kids Voting project.
That year, students nominated and then voted on the name of the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation in the November General Election. They had precincts, official ballots, and ballot boxes. Votes were tallied at official headquarters and announced the next day alongside the student projections of presidential and local election outcomes.
